The Green Interventions and Innovations course brought interesting ideas for an even greener university

Interesting architectural ideas for an even greener SUA - Green University were brought by the interdisciplinary educational course Green Interventions and Innovations, which took place in the premises of the Institute of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering. The course was one of the activities of the "Race to Zero" strategy.

Their goal is to raise awareness of green innovations at the university that meet the goals of the GreenMetric assessment. The participants of the course suggested, for example, the optical lighting of the space under the hall, its enrichment with a dominant plant in the center of the entrance hall, a green roof, a green wall, or the addition of greenery in the long corridor connecting the pavilions in the main building of SUA. Their designs also addressed the atrium, where they designed, for example, a water retention tank, greenery and furniture.

Part of the activity was also a competition implemented through the Fund for the Support of Innovative Ideas. The participants were looking for experimental solutions within specific assignments that were tied to the model area of the premises of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra: Interior and exterior biophilia, Innovative prototypes of green constructions, Water retention measures, Revitalization of street space, Penetration of greenery exterior/interior - atrium. Another sub-activity called Bio:B(L)OOK took place in the premises of the Slovak Agricultural Library. Its goal was to introduce the participants to the creation of an interior design object from waste materials, primarily discarded book publications intended for shredding, supplemented with elements of interior greenery.

Part of the third sub-activity - Competition of innovative business ideas - was the Virtual Living Lab focused on the issue of sustainable business and consumption, social responsibility in business, creation of a business plan with an emphasis on ESG strategy and the issue of technology transfer to business. The activity was open to student teams who, based on the call, applied for their business idea. After attending workshops and individual consultations, they transformed their ideas into business plans, which were evaluated by an expert jury. The virtual part was implemented through the portal https://cowork.uniag.sk/startup, where workshops were also held. The presentations themselves took place in the premises of the SUA Coworking Center.
