SUA in Nitra Signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Lesy SR
03.09.2025The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA in Nitra) has strengthened its cooperation with the state enterprise Lesy Slovenskej republiky (Forests of the Slovak Republic). On August 27, SUA Rector Klaudia Halászová and Tibor Menyhart, Director General of Lesy SR, signed a memorandum of cooperation covering research, development, and the application of knowledge.
The memorandum is expected to lead to an innovative partnership between SUA in Nitra and Lesy SR. “The Faculty of Agrobiology and Food Resources (FAFR), together with Lesy SR, will focus on the development of game management. SUA operates its own university hunting ground Gápeľ, which is used for teaching hunting-related courses and for conducting research projects,” explained Rector Halászová. The cooperation will also include cattle breeding, milk and dairy production, feed production, as well as preventive measures against wildlife damage to forest stands. Furthermore, it will involve research into the nutritional composition of forest dendromass as a primary source of food for wild animals, and the provision of technical facilities and accommodation.
According to Marek Halo, Dean of the Faculty of Agrobiology and Food Resources, deepening cooperation with Lesy SR will expand opportunities for graduates, who will not only be specialized in livestock, but also in wildlife and companion animals. “The Gápeľ hunting ground is used for teaching hunting courses as well as subjects taught within specialized animal husbandry and other study programs. It is also a site for animal, plant, and tree protection, implementation of water retention measures, animal hygiene, and animal health protection,” added Halo
