01.04.2026
Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra has completed a major renovation of its University Sports Centre as part of the AgroForestry project. The upgraded facilities were recently presented to staff and students, with the official opening scheduled for May.
The reconstruction, which began in June 2024, covered more than 4,800 m² and resulted in a modern sports complex serving students, employees, and the wider public. The project included comprehensive upgrades such as insulation, façade renewal, roof and interior reconstruction, and modernization of technical systems and layouts. Facilities now include a sports hall, gym, sauna, locker rooms, and a fully refurbished 25 × 12 m swimming pool.
According to Rector Klaudia Halászová, the investment reflects the university’s holistic approach to health, combining nutrition, research, and physical activity. A new access and reservation system has also been introduced to improve facility management, with designated times for academic use and public access.
The centre now features a wellness zone with sauna and massage areas, and further development plans include outdoor sports facilities. The total investment reached €4.1 million, funded by Slovakia’s Recovery and Resilience Plan. The AgroForestry project is implemented in cooperation with Technical University in Zvolen and also includes the development of an Innovative Agricultural Technology Laboratory and a Biodome.
