Successful graduates of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, currently operating on important positions in companies and businesses across the country, addressed the present students of the university and shared their experiences, achievements and insights which they obtained after the completion of their university studies. The meeting of two worlds – theory and practice – enabled the event Presentation days of businesses and 5th Annual Career Day organized by the SUA in Nitra within the activities of its Career Centre in collaboration of national project „Universities as Engines of the educated society“.
The goal of the event was a closer link between university education and manufacturing practice with a positive impact on the competitiveness of the university graduates in labour market.
The Presentation days were opened by the Vice-Rector for the Education and ECTS Prof. RNDr. Zdenka Gálová, CSc., and the national project „Universities as Engines of the educated society“ representative Ing. Štefan Chudoba, PhD. He emphasized the importance of linking the education and practice during the university studies. As the Vice-Rector Z. Gálová mentioned, the SUA promotes long-term strategy of the quality of education , which requires an interaction with the practice to improve the applicability of its graduates. “The aim of the management is to motivate students to work on themselves, to create for them the best conditions for interconnection with the practice in order to help them with their future carries.“
The essence of the project “Universities as Engines of the educated society” was presented by the professional guarantor Ing. Milan Fiľa, PhD., also a successful graduate of the SUA. “The national project allows an interconnection of universities with business practice. It helps students to recognize the reality, the functioning of the company and its internal mechanisms and principles. We allow them to participate in short excursions or long-term internships to help them to get a real job.”
The fact that the practical experiences cannot be replaced by any theory and the right decisions have to be done already during the studies, were reminded by the successful graduates of the SUA - Mgr. Despite their professional duties, they found in their schedule a time to provide students with valuable advice how to establish themselves in the labour market. They uncovered the secrets of their success and mobilized them in a meaningful and active work during their studies.
Within the programme, the students of the SUA had the opportunity to establish a direct contact with the representatives of 15 entities in a form of presentations, interviews and professional discussions in information stands in the foyer under the auditorium. Some of the companies offered specific jobs, seasonal or other kinds of jobs.
The event was attended by hundreds of students of all faculties and grades. Most of them had no doubt that without work experiences there is a little chance to find a job in their field after graduation. Michael, a student of FBFS, said: “I was very interested by the presentation of our graduates and companies. Their experiences show that to the practices directly in the company or in farms should be paid much more lessons. Students should try in the reality what the theory says. Combining the studies with the practices is the priority and essential,” he concluded.
